Emergency response discussed at town hall meeting

Posted: Updated:

Several hundred people squeezed into the town hall meeting tonight.

The main question they want answered is why did it take so long for first responders to help people evacuate?

Police Chief Art Acevedo admitted to the crowd of flood victims city leaders were operating with inaccurate information last week before the storm hit. He said they thought they had hours, but in reality had only minutes to get people out and get first responders into affected areas.

FOX 7 went to some of the hardest hit areas on south Pleasant Valley Road.

Code enforcement confirms nearly 500 homes have been deemed dangerous because of water damage.

The disaster efforts are most likely going to cost the American Red Cross more than $1 million. They've only raised about $20,000. You can donate $10 by texting "redcross" to 90999.
