The Transportation Security Administration says the number of guns seized at airports around the country is on the rise.
Last week's fatal shooting at LAX is the most recent example of how people are able to bring unauthorized guns into airports.
The TSA says last week alone, they discovered 29 firearms. Twenty-seven were loaded and nine had rounds chambered. Two of those handguns were confiscated at ABIA.
On Sunday, TSA agents arrested a woman at a security checkpoint for having brass knuckles in her carry-on bag.
"This person is taken to the jail, they are booked in, arrested, they now have a felony arrest," said attorney Mindy Montford. "Certainly you could see someone spending in the thousands on a case such as this. I've probably had three within the past year at the airport alone. I have had someone ask me, you know, if now, he goes and flies, will he be tagged and I was told he would not, the case was ultimately dismissed."
Montford says the TSA will also fine you $1,000 for having a gun in an airport, even if you have a concealed handgun license. Some other places that will bump up the charge to a third degree felony are polling locations and race tracks.
