Man's inspirational message turns heads

Posted: Updated:

One man in the Dove Springs Neighborhood is leaning the power of inspirational words. Mike Espinoza grabbed a can of spray paint and wrote 'keep your spirits up' on a board that he set outside his downed fence.

"I just did it to help," Espinoza said Monday. "I was just feeling really bad and people were crying."

Neighbors and those cleaning up say a little motivation goes a long way.

"You see that and it really helps just to see someone take the time to do that," Flora Guerra said from across the street. She's helping her family members clean up their damaged home.

On the other side of the street, Leelannee Wagner lost most everything. She says Espinoza is a good neighbor and his random act of kindness helped in a big way.

"It made me feel like we were all going to get our lives back together," Wagner said.

Espinoza made a second sign. "Someone who had helped me gave me a hug and that really helped," he said. Which inspired a sign that reads hug someone.

He lost his trucks and equipment for his landscaping business but says he'll bounce back.

"It's almost like you're in a move when you see a disaster but this is real," Espinoza said.

He plans on keeping the signs up as long as he can.
