The Alamo Drafthouse on Slaughter Lane became a slice of Hollywood on Sunday but it was still very "Austin" in nature.
The new feel-good Christmas movie "Angels Sing" starring Connie Britton and Harry Connick Jr. was shot in the Bastrop area.
The film also features plenty of local talent like Eloise Dejoria. Her character is married to Lyle Lovett's character.
"This is a fun movie, it has its sweet moments and beautiful music and it's just a lot of fun," Dejoria said.
Apparently there's a lot of music in this movie. Several local musicians like blues singer Lavelle White make musical cameos.
"My role in the movie is the song that I wrote 'He was born in the manager' and I wrote the song myself at the last moment," White said.
Austin-based producer Fred Miller says it's a movie about making memories for the next generation and making peace with memories that aren't so good.
"There are a lot of fathers and sons that didn't do things perfectly. So this movie's about how do you reconcile and how do you end up being totally hopeful about what's coming next? And this movie leaves people with a lot of hope," Miller said.
The filmmakers have teamed up with the Ronald McDonald house. Carolyn Schwarz with the Austin chapter says the group serves 2,000 families annually.
"Many of the people here today bought tickets as a special event to come today and so all the ticket sales will be benefiting our local Ronald McDonald house charities," Schwarz said.
And yes...the great Willie Nelson puts his acting chops to the test in "Angels Sing."
"Well I play kind of a Christmas-type, Santa-type character I guess. With a stretch of the imagination a little bit," Nelson said.
And don't worry...he'll sing.
"I think we do a couple. I know we do 'Amazing Grace'...my sister and I do that," Nelson said.
Nelson saw the movie a few months ago. He hopes it does well.
"I thought it was pretty good," Nelson said.
FOX 7 is a proud sponsor of the "Lights of Love" 5K which benefits the Ronald McDonald House.
"Lights of Love" is coming up on December 6th.
In the meantime, Angels Sing is showing in select theaters.
