3-alarm fire at downtown high rise

Posted: Updated:

Firefighters responded to a three-alarm fire at a high rise in downtown Austin Saturday afternoon.  It happened just after 2 p.m. in the Amli apartment building near West 3rd Street and Guadalupe.  According to AFD, the fire started in the kitchen of La Condesa restaurant and spread to the vent system.

"We did not know how far it had extended, so we upgraded it to the next level, which brought us a lot more resources so we could be sure to deal with anything that may come," said APD Lt. Andre De La Reza.

Luckily, the fire was put out fairly quickly and there were no injuries.  La Condesa posted on its Facebook page that the restaurant would be closed Saturday.
