Beginning Sunday at 8 a.m. residents are being told they will be allowed to bring contractors into areas damaged by the flooding. The Better Business Bureau is warning homeowners about people trying to prey on flood victims. This may include out of town contractors soliciting business. The BBB is advising residents to be wary of anyone who does not have a license or contact information and those who use high pressure sales to get money and require fees up front.
"Do your research," says Jarrod Wise with the BBB. "Don't take the best offer right away, otherwise you could be out money and the stuff you were going to get fixed in your home. Second, there's going to be contractors who want business. Don't give anyone any money because your insurance company won't give you another check. "
Those who think they have been scammed or taken advantage of should contact the office of the Attorney General.
