Investigators have identified the Metro Detroit men who died in the crash. They are John Bergeron, 50, of Birmingham; Joel Garret, 79, of Troy; and his son, Dale Garret from Berkley.

We talked to Kevin Sell who knew Dale for 35 years. Both attended Detroit Country Day. Kevin will remember him as a devoted friend.

"He's a great father, a great husband, honestly just a fantastic person," Sell told Fox 2. "Certainly he was someone who when you were looking for a committed friend he was the type of friend you could count on."

Fox 2 has learned both Joel and Dale were pilots who flew out of the Troy Airport often. Their plane went down around 4:30pm Friday. A farmer notified authorities of the crash. Dispatchers say the lone survivor, Joseph Stevens of Bloomfield Township, was taken to a hospital in Wisconsin with serious injuries.

The city of Detroit says workers and retirees have approved pension cuts, a crucial step to emerging from the largest municipal bankruptcy in U.S. history. The city reported results Monday after two months of balloting ended July 11. A judge still must hold a trial to determine if Detroit's overall bankruptcy plan is fair and feasible, but support from retirees is vital.
