GOODYEAR, Ariz. -

There are new developments surrounding the disappearance of a 78-year-old woman.

Her grandson is being questioned by police and now investigators have revealed a major twist in the case.

At this point, police are calling the woman's grandson a person of interest and investigators say he led them to the desert outside Gila Bend on Thursday.

Police thought what they found there was a body, but it turned out to be something else.

Authorities won't say exactly what they found hidden under a tree and a white sheet, but it is not the body of Helen Jean Lee who has been missing since Wednesday.

"The way it was concealed.. it was not very obvious of what it was, however it was set up to look like it could be a body," said Lisa Kutis of the Goodyear Police Department.

It appears police are no closer to finding Lee even though they are still talking to her grandson, 40-year-old Jason Howell.

"Detectives have not yet ruled out that this is a homicide, but the focus is still that this is a missing person," said Kutis.

Howell lived with his grandmother in Lee's home.  Neighbors noticed the garage on Wednesday and called the police.  That same day, Howell was arrested for carjacking a woman and her daughter outside a Chandler elementary school.

Investigators say Howell is talking, but they won't tell us more than that.

"I really thought when they said yesterday that he was cooperative.. he might as well come forward and tell the truth," said Don Morrison, a neighbor.

Morrison and his wife have been friends with Lee for more than a decade.

"It is just so ambiguous and there is no closure to it yet.  So that is a problem for us.  My wife said this morning that she thinks she is at peace now and this kind of thing stats that whole thing over again," he said.

If you have any information about Lee's whereabouts, call the Goodyear Police.
