Cleanup begins after Central Texas floods kills 2

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - Cleanup work gets underway in earnest a day after flash floods across Central Texas killed two men and prompted dozens of emergency rescues.

Friday will be a day of damage appraisals a day after hours of heavy rains across Central Texas on Thursday. Up to 13 inches of rain fell in the area, swelling rivers and creeks and triggering flash floods in a region plagued by a long, punishing drought.

Austin police reported that the body of a man 50 to 60 years old was found Thursday in the city's flooded Onion Creek. Earlier, the Caldwell County sheriff's office said a man died Thursday after driving on a low-lying portion of road overtaken by flooding.

No identities have been released for either man.
