AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - Some homes along rain-swollen Central Texas rivers have been evacuated and schools delayed opening amid flooding and high-water rescues.
The National Weather Service on Thursday issued flash flooding warnings for Travis, Comal, Hays, Freestone, Limestone, Anderson, Bastrop, Caldwell and Lee counties.
Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services reported some rescues in Hays County, including word of people clinging to trees or wading through high water. Police in San Marcos, 30 miles south of Austin, say homes along River Road were being evacuated.
An emergency shelter was set up at a community center in Wimberley, 30 miles southwest of Austin, after flooding along Cypress Creek prompted evacuations. The Hays County Independent School District, Wimberley ISD and Dripping Springs ISD delayed classes until midmorning.
