APD announce safety plan for downtown Halloween celebrations

Posted: Updated:

Austin police will be out in full force on 6th Street this Halloween to keep celebrators safe. But beforehand officers want to remind people planning to head out of the rules.

Starting at 6 p.m. that evening vehicle traffic won't be allowed on 6th Street from Brazos to the I-35 west frontage road and cross streets in that area will be closed from 5th Street to 7th Street.

Any vehicles parked on those streets after 6 p.m. will be towed.

Austin police say if the crowds get larger than expected more street closures could come.

Police say no weapons of any kind will be allowed in the area and costume accessories should be of plastic or other soft material.

Any open containers of alcohol and glass containers are also prohibited. Also an 11 p.m. curfew will be enforced for children under 17-years-old who aren't accompanied by a parent or guardian.
