Jury finds Fred Yazdi guilty of murder

Posted: Updated:

The verdict is in for Fred Yazdi in Williamson County. After deliberating for more than 18 hours, jurors in the Fred Yazdi trial stepped into the courtroom late Wednesday night and found him guilty of murder.

Yazdi has been charged with murder in the fatal shooting of 23-year-old Enrique Recio in front of his house in February 2012.

The shooting took place after Recio crashed his car near Yazdi's home. According to Yazdi, Recio ended up in Yazdi's front yard. Yazdi came outside with a gun and allegedly told him not to run or he would shoot. Prosecutors said Recio tried to get away and Yazdi shot him three times. Recio was killed and found on a public sidewalk.

Prosecutors said Recio was intoxicated and was trying to hide from police after wrecking his car. They insisted he did nothing to threaten Yazdi.

The defense argued that Yazdi believed Recio was an armed intruder, and he had the right to shoot.
