This week city leaders will consider a resolution that would temporarily prevent city cemetery staff from removing decorations from gravesites.
Earlier this month the city announced existing regulations about what is and isn't allowed at graves would be enforced starting November 1.
After 30 days, the items would be removed. Some of the non-compliant items include bricks, pavers, stones and statues.
During a work session Tuesday at City Hall council discussed resolutions that would prevent decorations from being removed and allow for the cemetery rules to be until the rules and regulations can be examined and open for public discussion.
Council member Kathie Tovo is sponsoring the resolutions.
"Many people that's the way they honor their loved ones, by visiting their grave and bringing items that are meaningful. So it's critical to have rules and regulations while also respecting rights of those who have loved ones in the cemetery," Tovo said.
Council could take action Thursday.
