Video Shows Brutal Robbery At Bustleton ATM

Posted: Updated:

Philadelphia Police want to identify a suspect that struck and robbed a man at an ATM in Bustleton.

The chilling video shows a 65-year-old man removing cash from an ATM at the First Niagara Bank in the 9700 block of Bustleton Avenue.

Suddenly he senses something wrong and is quickly set upon by a man with a gun. News of the armed robbery caught ATM patrons off guard.

"I usually don't go late at night, so I'll make sure I'm not in a bad situation," said bank ATM customer Cody Lev in the Northeast.

The suspect pointed the gun right into the chest of the victim and demanded money.

The elderly man wrestled with him before he was struck in the head with the gun and fell to the ground out of camera range.

The suspect fled. The victim comes back into camera range obviously shaken by the violent encounter.

"I usually look around and just to see who's out and about. If I don't feel comfortable, I'll come back at another time," Lev told Fox 29.

The robbery occurred just after 8pm back on September 20th. It happened just three days after a suspect fitting the same description robbed a woman at the night deposit box at the Wells Fargo Bank in the 7400 block of Bustleton.

The ATM camera captured the robbery in progress as the suspect reached for a gun in his waist band and grabbed the deposit bag from the woman, and then he fled with the 40 year old victim right behind.

"At night I usually, would probably go somewhere inside if that's around' Lev explained.

Police are worried it could be only a matter of time before this suspect seriously hurts someone.

"I'll try to stay with keeping my money digital and not going out to get cash from the machine," Lev added.

The police say the suspect made his escape from Wells Fargo in a gold Chrysler Sebring that was driven by a white male. The getaway car in the ATM robbery was described as silver Ford Taurus.

Police are continuing to investigate this crime. No arrests have been made.

If you see this suspect, contact police at 215.686.TIPS (8477) or text a tip to PPD TIP or 773847.
