NEW YORK (AP) - The former head of a South Bronx charity has been arrested and charged with stealing almost $900,000 from the organization.
Authorities say Yolanda Gonzalez used the money she allegedly pilfered from Nos Quedamos for personal expenses.
She was arrested Wednesday following a criminal investigation by the state attorney general's office that led to her suspensions without pay in 2011.
She was arraigned on charges of grand larceny, attempted larceny and falsifying business records. She pleaded not guilty. The judge set bail at $100,000.
Her attorney says his client looks forward to clearing her name at trial.
Gonzalez's mother, Yolanda Garcia, founded the social and housing services organization in 1992. Gonzalez took over in 2005 after her mother died.
