When you joke that it feels like your job is killing you, you may actually be right.
New research from the University of Copenhagen finds that stress at work is so bad these days that it makes us feel like our lives are in danger. A Ph.D student at the University of Copenhagen says that the way we would react to physical danger, racing heart and palpitations, now occurs at work.
She says that workers are piling on more and more pressure to outperform in order to maintain their self-worth. In fact, tools that companies use to measure employee performance may actually make the employee more vulnerable to stress.
She also recommends that employers need to accept more responsibility for employees pushing themselves too hard.
