Austin police say a woman has been arrested and charged with murder in the shooting death of her live-in boyfriend.
According to police, on Oct. 6, 36-year-old Elizabeth Garcia called 911 and informed the dispatcher that she shot her boyfriend, 46-year-old John Thomas Haney, inside her residence at the Great Hills Apartments, located in northwest Austin.
When Police arrived on scene, Haney was found dead with multiple gunshot wounds
According to court paperwork, Garcia stated that she and Haney were arguing over the fact that she was unemployed and was not contributing financially to their three–year relationship. She said that Haney accused her of being pregnant, in which she denied and then he threatened to "beat a baby out of her." She told police that the argument turned physical and she retrieved a revolver from hidden under the couch.
Garcia reportedly shot Haney and when he reached for her, she shot him several more times as he lay on the floor.
Police found Haney dead with multiple gunshot wounds.
According to police, there were no signs of struggle in the living room of the residence.
Police say Garcia stated there have been several prior incidents of domestic violence at the residence but only one involved response from law enforcement.
Garcia has been charged with murder, a first degree felony.
