Austin Police have charged a man after they say he robbed a church in southwest Austin.
It happened on Oct. 4, in the 9900 block of Bilbrook Place.
Police say Jesse Silva was in the process of removing items from a storage shed belonging to Texas Oaks Baptist Church, when he was approached by a man responsible for security at the church.
Police say Silva entered a truck, which was later discovered to be stolen and began driving towards the man. In fear of his life, the man told police that he fired with eight to 10 shots, striking the windshield and hitting Silva in the chest. Silva reportedly swerved around the man and drove off.
Police say Silva was dropped off at a local hospital where he was treated for a gunshot wound.
Silva was charged with burglary of a building, a state jail felony and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.
