Posted: Updated:

Fire investigators say improperly discarded smoking materials caused a fire at a north Austin apartment Sunday afternoon.  Crews were called out to the 8800 block of North IH 35 around 4:30 p.m.  When they arrived they say an entire unit was on fire.  Flames were coming from a second floor balcony and had spread into the attic.  The fire was contained to the one apartment, but firefighters say several near by units have smoke and water damage.  No injuries were reported.  Investigators say the fire cause $300,000 in damage.
