A couple drives to Austin from New Mexico in search of their family pet who they say got loose and ran away from an animal transport van.
Gretal is an 8-year-old Belgium Malinois. She was being moved from North Carolina to New Mexico.
As soon as Jennifer Cooksey and her husband received the phone call that Gretal was missing they got in the car as soon as they could.
"I got a phone call while I'm in the shower and I listen to the message and it says we've lost your dog," explained Cooksey. The voicemail from the owner of Your Affordable Pet Movers explained Gretal had gotten away while they were taking her out of the crate in the van. She got out of the harness in the van. They chased her around the block and she slid out of the collar they had been given.
The owner went on to tell Cooksey that they called rescue groups and would search the area and that they were terribly sorry.
Cooksey wants more help and to find Gretal. They believe with every passing day the leads go cold and Gretal gets further away.
Using social media they are spreading the word about their search.
"Gretal," yelled Jennifer Cooksey near Lake Mirror Park in Pflugerville. She's not familiar with the area but a Facebook tip led them to the area.
Cooksey says she's not out for revenge against the company. All she wants is to find her dog.
FOX 7 knocked on the door of the address listed on the company's website and reached out for comment.
If someone finds Gretal, Cooksey wants people to call Pflugerville Animal Control at 512-990-7387. Cooksey can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org
Gretal has a micro-chip but it's not registered.
