In an effort to keep up with Austin's booming population, the city's airport is undergoing some renovations. A multi-million dollar expansion project is underway at Austin Bergstrom International Airport.
The $60 million expansion, expected to give the airport a more modern feel, is a necessity due to the rising number of people that pass through the building, according to airport officials. They say the facility is close to being maxed out for its size.
The ABIA expansion will see the airport get an increase of approximately 55,000 square feet, including ten new security lanes.
The project is expected to take two years to complete. A spokesperson with ABIA said the expansion will not be paid for with taxpayer dollars.
