SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -

Some Scottsdale fire heroes were honored Sunday night.

In addition to some well deserved recognition, the fundraising event also raised money for some valley charities.

It's the 13th annual Scottsdale Firefighters Charities Dinner and as if fire fighting wasn't enough of a contribution to their community, this event is also a chance for firefighters to raise money for local charities.

Attendees got the chance to bid on auction items-and purchase tables at the event.

All proceeds went to the Scottsdale Firefighters Association, which supports charity work throughout the year.

"During Christmas time, Thanksgiving time, we end up finding families that are less fortunate that we can go into their homes and give them a Christmas, put food on the table, give the children present. This is just great satisfaction," said Chad Masciotra, Scottsdale Firefighters Association Charities Director.

In addition to raising money, the Scottsdale Fire Battalion Chief was honored at the event for helping police catch a robbery suspect in December 2012.
