Hundreds in the community came out to support families impacted by autism Saturday morning. 'Walk Now for Autism Speaks' was held at Camp Mabry this year. The family-friends event is the biggest fundraiser for Autism Speaks. According to the organization, autism is the fastest-growing serious developmental disorder in the U.S. affecting one in 88 children.
"This walk for those kids hopefully will fund a cure for them, awareness so when they're out in the community they're supported, and not looked at as somebody that's just misbehaving. So it's tolerance for them and acceptance for them and awareness for their disability," said Kimberly Waltmon with Greater Austin Walk Now for Autism Speaks.
Good Day Austin anchor Loriana Hernandez was the emcee for the walk this year, and got some help from Dave Froelich, and FOX 7 was a sponsor.
