An armed robbery suspect was arrested after threatening and stealing a truck from a man and later leading deputies on a chase through Yuma on Friday morning.

Yuma County Sheriff's deputies say 27-year-old Norberto "Sleepy" Aguilar Ruelas broke into a home in the 3500 block of West 8th Street and demanded money.

The man didn't have any money, so Ruelas allegedly pulled out a gun and told him to hand over the keys to the man's white 1993 Toyota pickup truck.

Deputies spotted the vehicle while on patrol a little before 6 p.m.

Ruelas allegedly avoided the deputies as they tried to catch up to him. During the chase, a passenger in the vehicle jumped out while it was moving.

The passenger was taken to a medical center with non-life threatening injuries. His name hasn't been released.

Deputies say witnesses told them Ruelas had struck a parked vehicle before the man jumped out.

About 30 minutes later, Ruelas was found in a shed in a home's back yard.

According to deputies, 2 ounces of meth and a handgun were found in the vehicle.

Ruelas was arrested and booked into the Yuma County Adult Detention Center for armed robbery, aggravated assault, theft of means of transportation, resisting arrest, criminal trespassing x2, prohibited possessor and on a unrelated felony warrant for probation violation.
