SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (WJBK) -

A Detroit Police Officer and Oakland County businesswoman are charged with felony racketeering and bribery. Officer Tamboura Jackson, 40, of Clinton Township and Lisa Curtis, 34, of Macomb are accused of taking part in an elaborate scheme involving fake police and fraudulent credit reports.

"I am committed to ensuring that the members of the Detroit Police Department conduct themselves in a manner that is worthy of the public's trust," said DPD Chief James Craig. "To that end, every allegation of police misconduct is thoroughly and impartially investigated."

The charges state that Curtis recruited dozens of clients to her Waterford based company, Bright Star Consulting, LLC, that aims to improve credit scores. After receiving payments, which ranged from $200 to $1,000, Curtis and Jackson would file false police reports claiming the clients' identities had been stolen.

According to the charges Curtis would pay Jackson between $50 and $200 for helping create and file the false reports.

Curtis would then send the falsified reports to a national credit reporting agency, and forge a letter unbeknownst to the clients asking the "incidents" be removed from their credit reports. Often times the scheme would work and clients credit scores would improve by up to 100 points.

Officer Jackson is also accused of using the scheme to improve his own credit score after logging in to the DPD's crime reporting system using another officer's log-in information.

Jackson is suspended without pay.
