Approval For Second Philly Casino Moves Forward, Amid Protests

PHILADELPHIA -

The process for approving a second Philadelphia casino is moving forward.

State gaming officials held a hearing to gather evidence from the city on the six applicants for the remaining casino license to be awarded. The city did not endorse any of the applicants, but listed pros and cons for each proposal.

Protesters came out in force to oppose any planned casino in Philadelphia.

"Our view is that city leadership has a responsibility to look after the people of Philadelphia, so when asked what site do you favor, answer should be we don't favor a casino in Philadelphia," one protestor said.

The protesters argue that casinos promote gambling and hurt the quality of life.
