Woman charged with arson in group home fire

Posted: Updated:

A woman is in jail on arson charges, following a fire this morning at a north Austin group home.

It happened just before 6 at Hannah's House in the 12000 block of Running Bird Lane.

Austin Fire officials say 26-year-old resident Becca Gallardo has been charged with arson.

Investigators say she admitted to starting the fire in a downstairs bedroom because she was mad at staff.

Twenty-seven people are now without a home and Red Cross is helping.

The fire department issued two citations for the home not having working smoke alarms.

Damage is estimated at $100,000 for the structure and items in the home.

No one was hurt.
