Police: Man Carjacked Ambulance With Patient Inside

PHILADELPHIA -

Police say they have a man in custody after he allegedly stole an ambulance that had a patient inside Friday afternoon.

The wild scene came to an end on the Schuylkill Expressway right near the City Avenue exit.

State police say it happend around 2:45 p.m. Friday afternoon. The suspect approached an ambulance traveling westbound in heavy traffic on I-76 near Girard Avenue. There were two emergency medical technicians aboard the ambulance, as well as a patient that was being transported.

The suspect, identified as Brian Kada, 25 of Philadelphia, held up the occupants of the ambulance at gunpoint. The EMTs fled from the ambluance and Kada took the vehicle and drove westbound before the vehicle became disabled. Kada got out of the ambulance and took off on foot. He was soon arrested by Philadelphia Police.

SkyFOX over the scene showed a still active investigation under way surrounding the Em-Star Ambulance as the early Friday afternoon rush hour began.

A second ambulance was called in to transport the patient in the back of the rig to Roxborough Hospital.

No injuries were reported.

Kada is charged with Robbery of a Motor Vehicle, Kidnapping, Assault, and other realted offenses.
