Lawyer, ATF to discuss 2011 car bombing probe

Posted: Updated:
DETROIT (AP) -

Federal agents and a Monroe-area attorney plan to talk to reporters, two years after the lawyer and two sons survived a car bombing that remains unsolved.

There have been no arrests, although Erik Chappell has said he believes he knows the culprit. The bombing occurred in 2011 while Chappell and his boys were riding in a Volvo in Monroe, near the Michigan-Ohio border. He practices law in both states.

Agents have called a news conference for Friday to provide new information about the investigation. Authorities have described the bomb as a sophisticated device built by someone with expertise in electronics.

In 2012, agents disclosed that it had components from an Electrix remote-controlled toy vehicle.
