PHOENIX (AP) - A Glendale man has been sentenced to 12 years in prison and lifetime probation in the death of his girlfriend's baby daughter in 2011.

Judge Cynthia Bailey sentenced Miguel Angel Garcia on Friday on his guilty pleas to manslaughter and attempted child abuse charges.

Authorities say Garcia was babysitting his girlfriend's four young children at an apartment while she was at work on Dec. 11, 2011.

Garcia told Glendale police that the 15-month-old girl was crying and he wrapped her in a blanket and put her face down inside a closet.

Police say Garcia told them the baby was unresponsive when he went to check on her about five minutes later.

Garcia originally was arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder.
