CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

The Great Chicago Fire Hydrant program benefits families of fallen Chicago police officers and firefighters, featuring designs by the city's professional and amateur artists.

Hundreds of these will be placed throughout the city to honor those who have been killed in the line of duty making the ultimate sacrifice and to recognize those who still serve the city today.

Bella Quintas, 12, painted one of those fire hydrants. She said she's done art all her life, but the volume of her work increased when her mother was diagnosed with aggressive breast cancer. For Bella, art became a form of therapy as well as her passion.

"I kind of got stressed. I didn't know what was going to happen," Bella said. "Art was really therapy tool.

"I'm so proud. It's amazing," her mother told FOX 32 News. "It's all of our local firefighters so she really put a lot of effort into the work that was on there. She really wanted it to be special."

The money raised by this charity art program will benefit the 100 Club of Chicago, which supports the family members of fallen firefighters and police officers.

FOX 32 adopted one of these fire hydrants. While it was still a blank canvas on Wednesday, it won't be long before an artist makes it beautiful and the station can display it on the FOX 32 plaza at Michigan and Lake.
