Austin Police say a southbound train struck a man trying to cross the train tracks near the MLK station.
Sgt. Robbie Volk says the conductor called 911 around 12:30 a.m. to report what happened.
Investigators with Cap Metro and APD's homicide unit processed the scene.
At this point in the investigation police say the crossing arms and lights were working.
The MLK station has surveillance cameras. It's not clear if the cameras captured the incident.
Crews cleared the scene before the first rail train departed for the morning commute.
Cap Metro shares the train tracks with freight trains. Cargo is hauled during the overnight hours and Metro Rail runs during the day.
