Wild University Of Delaware Party Leads To Three Arrests

Posted: Updated:
NEWARK, Del. -

Late last night, Main Street in Newark, Delaware certainly did not look serene. What did it look like? Just watch the video: thousands of students spilled onto the streets; it was a party that went totally out of hand, landing three people in police custody. Tonight, police are looking for more trouble makers.

Welcome to Monday night on the campus of the University of Delaware.

"The party started out as an invite on social media at this house on College Avenue," says Jeffrey Taviano, a senior. "The second an address was put out, the entire campus just walked towards that direction. It blew up."

The people behind the party was the video production company "I'm Shmacked." They bring cameras to visit campuses to capture the college party life. Last night, they came to the University of Delaware.

In less than an hour, it grew into chaos. Partygoers spilled into downtown Newark, some can be seen jumping onto moving cars. Many uploaded videos and pictures onto YouTube and Twitter.

"Thank God no one got hurt. That's what was going through my mind," said Corporal. James Spadola of Newark Police.

Nearly 100 officers from four agencies were called in as they estimated that the crowd was around 2,000 to 3,000. Police tell FOX 29 that two students that live in the house were arrested, along with an "I'm Shmacked" cameraman. They've all been arrested and charged with disorderly conduct.

"Definitely top three. Top three. I've seen some crazy ones, but that was insane. It was a good party," says Taviano.

But not all students feel the same.

"It's really disappointing to me that my fellow students would act like this after the University of Delaware worked so hard to move away from its image as a party school," says another student.

And if this wasn't enough, there's buzz around campus that partygoers may try this again tonight.

"It's possible; we have extra officers on duty tonight. We are actively monitoring the twitter feeds," says Spadola.

A University spokesperson says that the university is cooperating with the investigation. Police say that there could be more arrests. We tried to reach out to the owner of that video company. So no one has responded.

The University of Delaware sent a notice to students tonight saying the behavior seen last night will not be tolerated. It says the university is working closely with the Newark police department to ensure those responsible for last night's incident are held accountable.
