3 children struck by vehicle in Buckeye

BUCKEYE, Ariz. -

Two young brothers and another child waiting for a school bus were injured Tuesday morning when they were struck by a vehicle near 309th Avenue and Lynwood.

The boys had some scrapes and bruises and were transported to Phoenix Children's Hospital as a precaution.  They have since been released and are recovering.

According to the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office, deputies arrived at the scene at approximately 7:17 a.m. and gathered information which is consistent with witnesses statements.

Six children were waiting for their school bus when a vehicle traveling eastbound on Lynwood hit three of them.  MCSO says the children were located west of the intersection at the time of the accident.

Authorities say the vehicle's 18-year-old female driver, identified as Ashley Reed, did not see the children.

We're told the driver wasn't speeding or impaired, but she may have been distracted.  Reed is from the Buckeye area. It's unclear if she will be cited.

Deputy Joaquin Enriquez says the victims are ages 13, 6 and 7.

"It's real unusual for here because we have hardly any traffic," said Mike Gross, who lives in the area. "Maybe we get 10 cars in one day.  And that's maximum, counting the school bus, the garbage truck.. very quiet... elderly people here and they drive very slow, like 20 miles per hour at the most."
