A modern-day Romeo and Juliet were discovered Sunday alive and well in an SUV on the North Side of Chicago after the teenagers ran away from homes in Michigan about two weeks ago, police said.
Braxton Wood, 14, and his girlfriend Jayden Thomas, 13, were found at about 9 a.m. in a broken-down Ford Explorer in a parking lot next to a Mobil station in Wrigleyville in the 3900 block of North Broadway, Chicago Police said.
The SUV, which is owned by Wood's father, had run out of gas, said Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Veejay Zala, a spokesman for the department.
An anonymous tipster called police about the teens, Zala said. The couple was reported missing Aug. 26. They reportedly ran away because their parents didn't approve of their six-month relationship.
The teenagers were taken into protective custody and were waiting for their parents to drive from Michigan to pick them up, Zala said.
They live in Isabella County, Mich., about 160 miles northwest of Detroit.
