Texas defensive coordinator Manny Diaz has been fired, and former UT co-defensive coordinator Greg Robinson has been named to the position, head football coach Mack Brown announced Sunday.
The move comes on the heels of Texas' 40-21 loss to BYU Saturday in which Diaz's defensive unit gave up 550 yards rushing to the Cougars, the most ever given up by a Texas defense, and close to 700 yards of total offense.
"Our performance on defense last night was unacceptable, and we need to change that," Brown said in a statement released by UT athletics.
The loss caused Texas to fall out of the latest AP and USA Today Coaches Polls.
Robinson, who has served as a football analyst with Texas since July, was co-defensive coordinator on Brown's staff in 2004 when the Longhorns won the first of two consecutive Rose Bowls.
Diaz will be reassigned to a position within the athletics depatrment.
