Reptile amnesty day held in LI

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

The Suffolk County SPCA held the Reptile Amnesty Day where illegal alligators or other reptiles could be turned in, no questions asked.

The program took place in Selden and it was the second kind of program held in the county since April. The SPCA said 16 alligators were abandoned in Suffolk County in a nine-month period and other dangerous reptiles have been abandoned on the island in recent years.

On Saturday, eight reptiles were turned in, including an alligator and three boa constrictors. The reptiles will be taken to zoos and other safe locations.
