Austin Energy dispatched crews early Thursday morning to restore power to customers after strong winds from an overnight storm knocked out power.
The storm knocked out power to an estimated 6400 customers across South Austin. The strong winds also brought down some trees and fences.
Will Branch, who lives near Westgate and Manassas, told FOX 7 that he and his family were watching television when they heard a loud boom. He said he found a pair of trees had been knocked down.
One tree limb fell on part of the roof. Luckily the trees just missed the cars and the room where his wife was sitting.
"Well we were sitting here and I was watching television and lightening came up and the next thing you know there's a big boom and this is what we saw, it was amazing," Branch recalled.
Austin Energy sent six repair crews and four tree trimming crews out to work. As of Thursday morning, power had been restored to nearly all of the customers.
Additionally, Bedicheck Middle School suffered damages to part of the school's roof. It was not clear Thursday morning what the extent of the damages were.
