Flood Warning For Philly As Heavy Rain Continues

Flood Warning For Philly As Heavy Rain Continues

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

A Flood Warning is now in effect for Philadelphia, the National Weather Service says.

The warning for Philadelphia is until 5 p.m., as the NWS says radar indicated that 2 to 2.5 inches of rain had fallen over parts of the city by about 1 p.m.

This rain has already caused the Frankford Creek to rise above flood stage.

The NWS says excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause elevated levels on small creeks and streams as well as ponding of water in urban areas on highways, streets, underpasses and other poor drainage areas.

An earlier Flash Flood Warning for northwestern Bucks County, southeastern Lehigh County, and south central Northampton County is set to expire at 1:40 p.m.

In many parts of the area this morning we saw low clouds and little drizzle. But Ultimate Doppler showed there was a lot of rain moving our way.

Expect to see this rain all along the Pennsylvania Turnpike's Northeast Extension come and go.

Temperatures were in the mid-70s by mid-morning, and it felt very sticky out there. It will stay damp and humid with thunderstorms mainly in the afternoon and evening hours.

It looks like a nice start to the holiday weekend, with temperatures getting to 84 degrees on Friday, then things get hot and humid over weekend.

The shower chances return, especially by Labor Day, FOX 29 Meteorologist Caitlin Roth says.
