There are more than 29,000 acres of parkland all across the city of Austin and those who use the parks say quite a few improvements are needed.
More funding is needed for the Parks and Recreation Department to make those improvements.
Advocates with Great Austin Parks say at least $4 million more is needed to keep Austin parks maintained. According to advocates, with stark budget cuts to the Parks and Rec Department in recent years, the parks aren't getting enough attention.
"When you're not providing that basic preventative maintenance, they suffer. And as Austin continues to grow and absorb hundreds of new citizens every month, the maintenance is gonna continue to deteriorate," Treefolks Executive Director April Rose said.
Group advocates say if approved in the city's budget the additional money would help with general parks maintenance, as well as the city's forestry, pools, and trails.
