As promised, Travis County District Attorney Rosemary Lehmberg's donation to Mothers Against Drunk Driving arrived in the mail.
The total was $9,662. It's what Lehmberg earned while serving time in jail for her April DWI conviction.
She announced her plans to make a donation to MADD after being pressured to return the money to Travis County Tax Payers. Lehmberg said that wasn't legally possible.
MADD staff was happy to accept the donation.
"She indicated that she had contact with our organization in year's past and she felt very strongly that we did some good work in the community and were able to support the families who are affected by this terrible, violent crime and therefore she felt her funds would be well utilized," MADD State Director, Jaime Gutierrez said.
MADD received the donation on August 15. The money will go toward supporting the group's mission of eliminating drunk driving, stopping underage drinking and providing services for victims.
