'Farmer's Almanac' Predicts 'Storm Bowl'

Posted: Updated:
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -

Old Man Winter is a long way off and so is Super Bowl 48. But on February 2nd, 2014, when the biggest game in America is being played at MetLife stadium in New Jersey, the Farmer's Almanac says snow will be in the forecast.

"We're not saying blizzard. But we are saying that it's going to be a very wet, a very cold and stormy super bowl, which farmers almanac is calling it the 'Storm Bowl,'" says Sandi Duncan, the managing editor of the Farmer's Almanac.

"You can't forecast the weather six months in advance."

Those are the words of Dr. Dave Robinson. He is a New Jersey State Climatologist at Rutgers University.

He says there is a one in ten chance that there will be two inches of snow that will fall some time around February 2nd. He gets the information from decades of recorded weather history conducted at Newark Airport.

"The odds favor a snowless day, temperatures in the 30s around game time, and 10 days around the event a couple of inches of snow are likely to fall," says Dave Robinson.

So what does Governor Chris Christie think about the so called predicted "Storm Bowl?"

"What's the problem? They play in snow all the time. What's the problem? I mean, listen, I've got the plows fired up. They're ready to go," said Governor Christie on Boomer and Carton on WFAN 660AM.

A picture of Governor Chris Christie was taken soon after the NFL announced that the Super Bowl will be played in the New York/New Jersey market. It hangs on the wall at Redd's Sports Bar just down the street from the stadium.

"What is the difference anyway? Even if there is snow? Football players love to play in the snow, but they'll be no snow," says John Palsi, the owner of Redd's Bar and Restaurant.

So, is the Farmer's Almanac accurate or not?

"They always say it is. It's pretty accurate," says one bar patron.

"No way. I don't believe it. Farmer's Almanac is basically never right," says another.

Video games may be pure fantasy, but a violent action-adventure game called "Watch Dogs" has ignited a very real debate in one South Jersey community. Watch Dog allows players to adopt the persona of a James Bond-like computer hacker, chasing an evil mastermind. People say it's chock-full of foul language, sex and violence, features dark and foreboding backdrops. The latest version, which is due out this fall may be set in Camden.
