A 19-year-old was charged after police say he strangled a maid at a downtown hotel.
On Aug. 21, police say Eric Thomas Robertson approached a maid as she was working in a hotel room at a hotel located in the 300 block of East 4th Street. Robertson asked the maid to open the door to another room, but the maid informed him that she did not have authorization to do so and that he would have to go to the front desk.
She turned away from Robertson and continued working, believing that he had left the room. As she was exiting the bathroom she observed movement near the closet. Robertson came out of the closet and grabbed her from behind. She was able to free herself and reached for the phone and tried to call for help, when Robertson grabbed her again and began strangling her.
She fought back by scratching his forearms, poking his eyes and at one point grabbing him between his legs which caused Robertson to briefly let go. But then he grabbed her again and strangled her to the point that she passed out.
The victim regained consciousness approximately 30 minutes later and made her way to the service elevator, where she collapsed in the arms of a co-worker, who administered first aid and called police.
The victim was transported to a local hospital where she received treatment for a fractured bone, a laceration, and abrasions to her face.
Surveillance video showed Robertson exiting the hotel through the stairwell.
He was located and arrested on a separate charge later that night. Robertson was then also charged with aggravated assault bodily injury with deadly weapon, a second degree felony.
