Texas AG Greg Abbott responds to Twitter controversy

Posted: Updated:

FOX 7 questioned Attorney General Abbott about the national controversy he found himself in after appearing to thank a Twitter supporter who called Democratic Senator Wendy Davis "retard Barbie."

Many have called upon Abbott to apologize.

"For one...I have apologized. Also to the extent anyone wants to hear it…I want to make sure everyone understands that I believe language like that is reprehensible, should never be used, was neither supported by me...or read by me before I did that tweet. I want to make it perfectly clear that we don't want anyone in our campaign associated with that and we are going to run a solid campaign," Abbott said.

Abbot says he is apologizing. But said he had not apologized to Wendy Davis.

"I didn't say anything to her," Abbott said. "My apology is to anyone who is offended by this."

FOX 7 asked Abbott if it was him who responded to that tweet, or a member of his staff and he said, he was the one who responded.
