Crockett HS Principal launches health initiative for teachers
A Crockett High School administrator is getting fit and hoping to spread his new lifestyle to fellow staff and students.
Principal Craig Shapiro says he's lost close to 50 pounds after changing his diet and exercising more.
Tuesday, Shapiro launched a new health initiative for teachers, which he hopes trickles down to students to opt for healthier lifestyles.
Shapiro says his goal isn't to create a weight loss program but rather create healthy lifestyle changes that can last a lifetime. He says making these healthier choices has made a profound impact on him.
"It makes me feel wonderful and I'm a better leader, and I'm better at work and I'm better at home. I'm not as tired. I'm ready to go. And I want that same feeling for everybody in the building," Shapiro said.
To jump-start the program teachers received activity bands to wear that track their movement every day.
