AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - University of Texas regents are expected this week to approve a 5-year contract for new track coach Mario Sategna (suh-TAYN'-yuh) that would pay him about $242,000 annually.
Sategna has been put in charge of the men's and women's teams, but his contract pays him significantly less than Texas officials were planning to pay former women's coach Bev Kearney before she was suspended and resigned amid revelations of a relationship with a former athlete.
Texas officials had planned to ask the regents last October to set Kearney's salary at more than $475,000.
Sategna can earn up to $52,000 in performance incentives if his teams do well.
Regents also are expected to approve this week a raise and extension for volleyball coach Jarritt Elliott, whose team won the 2012 national championship.
