Sole survivor of plane crash appears in documentary

Posted: Updated:

This weekend marks the 26th anniversary of a plane crash that killed 156 people. 110 of the victims were from Arizona. Only one little girl survived the horrific crash -- a 4-year-old from Tempe.

Now she's grown up and appears in a new documentary in theatres this weekend.

"I think me surviving was random, I just happened to be in the right place at the right time," says Ceceilia Cichan.

Ceceilia Cichan has few memories before the accident. Her parents and brother died when the plane -- bound for Phoenix -- crashed after take-off.

The director of the film "sole survivor" says Ceceilia did not learn she was the only person to survive until high school. To this day, she deals with the guilt.

"Why didn't my brother survive, why didn't anybody, you know, why me?"

"There are scars on her body she did not ask for that were out of her control, scars from the accident, whether burns or a few missing fingers. The tattoo of the plane was a way to claim her body and put a scar that she had control over," says Ky Dickens, director of "Sole Survivor."

The director says now Ceceilia travels around the world. She approached the director about appearing in the film when she got word of the project. "Sole Survivor" is playing at Harkins Camelview 5.
