NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

A Long Island man was arrested for driving while intoxicated with his three-year-old son in his car after crashing the vehicle Saturday, according to police.

Suffolk County Police say Ryan Hannigan turned onto oncoming traffic in his 2010 jeep around 2:00 p.m., crashing into a 2007 Nissan Maxima.

Authorities say the 34-year-old driver of the Nissan Maxima was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.

Hannigan was arrested at the scene and was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated with a passenger 15-years-old or younger and endangering the welfare of a child.

According to the Associated Press, he was in custody Saturday and unavailable for comment. He will be arraigned Sunday at the First District Court in Central Islip.

Police say the boy was released to a family member.
