Driver Charged in Mercer County Accident

Posted: Updated:
LAWRENCE TWP., N.J. -

Three people are dead and two more are in the hospital after an SUV became wedged underneath a tractor trailer in Mercer County Friday night.

The accident happened just after 6:30 p.m. on Business Route 1 at Darrah Lane.

This afternoon prosecutors say the driver of the tractor trailer has been charged with three counts of death by auto.

The accident remains under investigation, but right now investigators believe a family in a Chevrolet Tahoe collided with the tractor trailer as the tractor trailer was making an illegal U turn while traveling south on Brunswick Pike.

The driver of the tractor trailer, 45-year-old Richard Williams of Brooklyn, NY,  is being held in the Mercer County Correction Center on $100,000 bail.

The driver of the Tahoe, Shaqwan Tisdale, 25, of Levittown, Pa., and eight-year-old Mellady Durante remain in the hospital in stable condition.

Jamella Tisdale, 25, was killed, along with nine-year-old Jaevon Durante and Jaden Tisdale, who was three and a half months old.
