CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

People from all over the country and even the world come to Chicago for the festival, but since that requires some big spending, some choose to crash with friends.

"I have an apartment here now, so people from Peoria are coming here are going to come stay with me and go," Lollapalooza fan Gina Pham says.

"We booked a hotel, but we decided to not stay in there because we already had a free house," festival-goer Jordan Filipowich says. "We're college students."

One couple from Toronto tried something other Lolla goers are looking to: free housing with strangers.

"They allow you to stay at their house, they have a profile describing themselves, things that they like to do etcetera," one couchsurfer explains. "And people leave references after they've met with them and interacted with them so you get a good idea whether you want to actually stay with this person."

On the website CouchSurfing.org, you can submit a couch request to someone who is offering up their place.

Couch surfers say it isn't 'just' about saving money.

"You actually get to meet these people and get to know them, like in this case in Chicago, we went to Berlin Bar last night which isn't anything I would have found on my own. So you get to know the good parts of the city outside of the tourist books," he continues.

Other websites, like Airbnb, link you up with homes and apartments to rent for a couple of nights. They're options concert-goers look to, to save money and see Chicago differently.
